Here is a story I wrote which I entered into a competition to win a holiday to Malta. I was unsuccessful and unfortunately I will not be going on Holiday to Malta. I am however going to Majorca on Tuesday and I will keep you up to date of my holiday.
The picture that goes with this post is a poster that I drew to go with the story.
I really wanted to share with you the story I wrote because I feel that it has a very important message behind it and it focuses on something I am very passionate about. So here is the story I entered for the competition:
My name is, Leona. I live in London with my mum and dad, Catherine and Richard. Four days ago my mum told me that she had booked a holiday to the beautiful island of Malta, to explore the Reef.
The minute we landed we went straight to the beach. The sun was blinding, the sand was like silk and the water was as clear as day.
As I hit the water, I felt like I had found true paradise. The colours were dazzling. Fish swimming in and out of the reef. The look of the different corals and how they worked was enchanting. For the first time in my life everything felt perfect and that everything had a purpose.
But then, chaos. All the fish swam away like lightning bolts in the middle of a storm. The air was whistling and screaming and a maelstrom of water came towards me. The calm, gentle seas were now chaotic and out of control and I was engulfed in water.
I came to. Was I in paradise? Everywhere I looked mermaids and other beautiful creatures were exploring the reef. A mermaid swam up, right to my face. “Who are you? Where am I? Am I in heaven?” I asked, with every word stumbling out my mouth. “Be calm, my name is Pearl, this is the Reef in Malta and I created the whirl pool to bring you here.”
“You find the reef paradise? We all do, but it will not be here for much longer. Soon the whole reef will die. Taking us with it.” Pearl said quietly as a small golden tear brushed down her face and as it fell it turned into a small pebble like many others around it. I didn’t understand what she meant, why did the beautiful reef have to die? “I am going to show you the reef fifty years from today” Pearl said, and I couldn’t help but notice another tear fall.
I felt sick to my stomach as I was shown not a reef but a vista of nothing but white, lifeless thorns which nothing could ever live on. Tears fell down my face like rain drops in a storm. I was then taken back to my world and I vowed that I would save the reef. So PEARL was born.
Fact of the day: It’s against the law to die in the town of Longyearbyen, Norway.
Joke of the day: How do you light up a football stadium? With a football match.
Riddle of the day: How do you make the number one disappear by adding to it?
If you know the answer to the riddle leave it in the comments below. Drop a like if you enjoyed reading this post and like me you are very big on saving the planet and especially the oceans. Remember to let me know in the comments if you liked the joke I put up there today.
