This is a simple way to extract copper
- Measure out one spatula of copper oxide and one spatula of carbon.
- Put the mixture into a test tube
- Heat the mixture strongly using a Bunsen burner moving a sample in and out of the flame using tongs. Do this for 5-7 minutes.
- Allow the mixture to cool before placing in a beaker, then add a little water.
- Wash the cool mixture through a sieve using water
- The pure metal should remain in the sieve.
