Extraction of copper

This is a simple way to extract copper

  1. Measure out one spatula of copper oxide and one spatula of carbon.
  2. Put the mixture into a test tube
  3. Heat the mixture strongly using a Bunsen burner moving a sample in and out of the flame using tongs. Do this for 5-7 minutes.
  4. Allow the mixture to cool before placing in a beaker, then add a little water.
  5. Wash the cool mixture through a sieve using water
  6. The pure metal should remain in the sieve.
